George Nelson was fascinated with all things Japanese, and that influence is clear in his Nelson miniature chests, which were designed in 1952. Reminiscent of tansu (traditional Japanese cabinetry), these striking, collectible chests made of teak store all kinds of things.

An interesting addition to nearly any room - whether at home or the office - these chests embody what Nelson appreciated most in Japanese design: “a sense of fitness in the relationship between hand, material, use, and shape.” Offered in a variety of sizes and drawer configurations, the Nelson Six Drawer Miniature Chest adds artistic interest and a touch of history - as well as practical function.

The Design:

• Japan had a profound effect on George Nelson. During his first trip to Tokyo in 1951 and several more that decade, Nelson became fascinated with all things Japanese. That influence is evident in the 1952 design of his miniature chests.
